They differ in colour too; veins are bluish, and arteries are reddish in color.
There are some major veins and arteries of the heart that deserve a particular mention due to their importance in body functioning. The Superior Vena Cava is a major vein, which transports blood from the head and neck area to the heart. The Inferior Vena Cava is another vein, and it transports blood from the lower areas in the body, such as abdomen to the heart. The Aorta is the largest artery in the human body. All other arteries extend from the aorta and perform their respective functions.
As well as the major veins and arteries carrying blood there are also capillaries. Capillaries are the links between arteries and veins and transport the blood from the arteries to the veins. They are miniscule in size.
