The standard definition for heart disease is any disease that negatively affects the cardiovascular system, meaning a person’s heart and blood vessels. Then, when plaque builds up in the arteries it will block any blood flow to the heart and increase the risk of the person having a heart attack or stroke. The disease that results from this is coronary artery disease and it affects both genders, contrary to popular belief.
A common stereotype is that women are naturally less prone to get heart attacks than men. People believe that heart disease in women is rare and there are very little signs of heart disease in women to look for. But be assured, the symptoms of heart disease in women are the same as in men and one should be aware of this.
In fact, heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States and throughout the world. If somebody doesn’t take care of themselves by eating poorly, then the arteries of the heart will most surely be clogged. Since women have arteries like men do, then theirs can just as easily get clogged. Nobody should wait until they need clogged artery surgery to start eating what you may call “artery cleansing foods.” It is always a good idea to eat right, even if you currently have a clean bill of health.
